Brazil's Purple September 2025: ITP Awareness Initiatives

To mark International ITP Awareness Week, which runs from September 22–28, 2025, the Brazilian ITP Association, PTI Brasil, will lead several key initiatives to raise awareness of immune thrombocytopenia.

  • On September 21–22, the Federal Senate in Brasília will be illuminated in purple to bring national visibility to ITP and the patients it affects.
  • A Public Hearing will be held at the Chamber of Deputies in Brasília on September 24. Speeches will be given to explain the demands of ITP patients in the country.
  • The 1st National PTI Conference will take place on September 27, featuring eight of Brazil's leading experts. Up to 50 patients can attend in person, with up to 500 participants attending online.
  • A dedicated social media campaign will run throughout the month with the theme, "It’s not just purple, it’s PTI—respect my struggle!". The campaign will highlight patient stories and the challenges of living with ITP.
  • Instagram Live sessions will also be held with hematologists and other specialists to provide accessible information on ITP, treatment options, and mental health.

Through these initiatives, the Brazilian ITP Association aims to ensure that the voices of people living with ITP are heard and recognized both nationally and globally. You can find more details about these events on the official PTI Brasil website.

Educational and Playful Universe for Children with ITP Launched in Denmark

On International ITP Awareness Day 2025, the Danish Hemophilia Society is proud to unveil a new playful and educational patient universe designed specifically for children with Immune Thrombocytopenia (ITP) and their families.

Families often struggle to find a shared language to understand and discuss what happens when a child is diagnosed with ITP. This innovative patient education material aims to bridge that gap, giving the entire family a common understanding of the condition – with the help of the new mascot, 'Blop', and his friends.

The educational universe includes two books — one for younger children and one for older children — alongside digital resources and short animated films.

Through characters such as Silje, Anton, and Ida, children learn about what happens inside the body when there are too few 'bloppers' (platelets).

Published by the Danish Hemophilia Society and produced by Caretoons, the material draws inspiration from families affected by ITP, who generously shared their experiences with the authors. Medical expertise was provided by Dr. Mimi Kjærsgaard from the Department of Pediatrics and Adolescents at Rigshospitalet, Denmark. The project is supported by Sundhedsdonationer and Helsefonden.

This initiative marks a significant step in making ITP education accessible, engaging, and supportive for children and their families, combining playful storytelling with essential medical knowledge.

ITP Awareness Week 2025 – Activities in the Netherlands

The Dutch ITP patient organization (ITP Patiëntenvereniging Nederland) is actively contributing to International ITP Awareness Week 2025 with a variety of initiatives aimed at increasing awareness and supporting patients.

Throughout September, the association is enhancing its presence on social media (Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn) and has created a dedicated campaign page in both Dutch and English.

Two special events are being organized:

September 20 – a lunch meeting for children with ITP and their parents, offering the chance to connect and share experiences.

💜 This afternoon we had a wonderful lunch for children with ITP and their families!

For many kids, it was the very first time meeting others with ITP. They had so much fun playing together at Speelparadijs Pannenkoekenhuis Voorst and, of course, enjoying delicious pancakes 🥞✨.

Parents also valued the chance to connect and share experiences. Two board members of the Dutch ITP patient Association were present to provide information and answer questions.

It was a truly successful afternoon and we’re already looking forward to next year! 💜

#ITPAwareness #StrongerTogether #Global4ITP

September 23 – a webinar for young people with ITP, focusing on participation in society while living with a chronic illness. The session will provide practical advice and guidance on questions such as when and how to talk about a chronic condition in professional or educational settings.

As in other Alliance countries, ITP Patiëntenvereniging Nederland is also encouraging its members and supporters to take part in the awareness campaign by sharing photos on social media dressed in purple and holding awareness signs, as well as by inviting cities to illuminate their landmarks in purple.

In addition, the organization is sharing valuable information about ITP and the importance of Shared Decision Making.
